Obama Made A Believer Out Of Me
by James T. Moore (4/16/10)
“The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth becomes the greatest enemy of the State.” --- Joseph Goebbels, Nazi propaganda minister.—I kid you not. If you talked with me for a few minutes you would be tempted to think, “Now here’s a guy who’s a real American; a 100 per-cent patriot right to the core.” And yes, you’d have hit the nail on the head. I am a no-bull, die-hard lover of America and all it stands for.
I proudly served my country for three years overseas in World War II. I’ve marched in every hometown parade that honored this nation. I’ve read the U.S. Constitution. I vote for my candidates. I donate to organizations that benefit our citizens. I’ve visited Washington D.C.; stood with awe at the foot of the Lincoln Memorial, and choked up reading the names on the Vietnam Memorial Wall.
My wife and I inculcated our four daughters with the knowledge of how wonderful this country is to live and work in; how great it is to be an American citizen; how free we are compared to people in other countries; how our laws protect us from tyrannical rulers and despotic political systems; and how the American values and principles make our way of life unique in the world; and finally, why those attributes are so sacred and worth saving at any cost.
And so, as you may have guessed, a man with that kind of love for his country would never be inclined to even think that his government would be anything but ethical its dealings with foreign neighbors; open and honest with its own citizens; staunchly respective of its Constitution, its history, and its heritage. In short, it was impossible for me to believe anything but good about this country.
Thus, a few years ago, when I saw the core values of America begin to change from what I thought was a near-perfect country to the rumblings of an oppressive, tyrannical government I was not just apprehensive, I was appalled and frankly frightened.
When taking the oath of office, we do not ask a politician to answer: “Cross my heart and hope to die if I tell a lie.” (For obvious reasons.) But when he takes this oath: “I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States, and will faithfully discharge the duties of the office I am about to enter; so help me God.” we expect him to simply say: “I do”. And mean it!
Unfortunately for America, what’s becoming clear is that most of our politicians - especially our presidents - might as well have their hand on a Sears catalog instead of the Bible, because, as we are slowly realizing, most (if not all) our presidents, including this one, lie through their teeth to get us into “just” or “retributive” wars, whether constitutionally justified or not, and without the consent of Congress, and then lie again and again to keep us involved in it.
Presidential “broken oaths” that lead to and perpetuate war did not start with Obama. Presidential oath-breaking started long ago, according to Judge Andrew P. Napolitano in his book, Lies the Government Told You. And he gives us these verifiable examples:
President Abraham Lincoln did his share of lying. His Emancipation Proclamation permitted slavery in five states. During the Civil War he shut down newspapers, suspended habeas corpus, and arrested congressmen who spoke against him.
In 1898, President William McKinley lied when he used the sinking of the USS Main in Havana Harbor to gather American support for the Spanish-American War.
In 1915, a German U-boat sank a British ship with 200 Americans aboard. It was no surprise. Britain wanted America’s help in their war against Germany. And President Woodrow Wilson “lied” when he used the tragedy to justify US entry into World War I.
In 1940, President Franklin D, Roosevelt lied when he said he would not let America enter “Europe’s War.” But for various reasons, FDR wanted us at war with the “Axis” powers; however he knew the American people needed justification. So Japan was provoked to attack us, which gave FDR the reason to declare war, and America was in World War II.
In 1964, to “contain” communism, President Lyndon B. Johnson ordered a Vietnamese attack, then lied when he said that the United States was attacked first. That lie may be the most egregious lie in history (so far) because it ignited 10 years of war with Vietnam, cost $200 million, and resulted in more than 50,000 dead, 519,000 wounded, and 1700 missing Americans.
In 2002, President George W. Bush scared us by lying that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction, which were never found. He also lied when he said that Hussein had sought large quantities of uranium from Africa. And when he used military force in Iraq, Bush continued to plug the war by telling more and more lies.
President Barrack Obama ranks No. 1 in presidential liars.
Every president may lie, but Obama’s lies are far more destructive because they go to the heart of legislation and governance, thus seriously undermining peoples’ trust in their government.
Here are just a few of Obama’s lies:
Obama promised that Guantanamo would be closed January l, 2010. It is still open.
Obama lied when he said that he and violent radical Bill Ayers were just acquaintances. Obama and Ayers worked together for years.
Obama said that he would protect Medicare against cuts. But he pressed for bills that included savage cuts of Medicare.
Obama said that 90% of the jobs his stimulus bill created would be in the private sector. Wrong. Most are in the public sector.
Obama promised he would stop deficit spending. But he has already quadrupled the size of the deficit he objected to.
Obama promised to end earmarks and pork. But the bills he supported have more and bigger earmarks than before.
On healthcare, Obama claims he never said he favors a single-payer system. But records show that that’s what he said.
Obama assured Congress that his health bill did not provide public funding for abortion. But research proved that it did.
Obama promised that he would not tax healthcare benefits. But the bill he backs would do exactly that.
Obama promised we could keep our current healthcare plan. Then he gave incentives to employers to shift their members to a public option.
Obama said that bills before Congress were too long to read. So he promised to stop that. But the bills he is backing run 2,000 pages or longer.
Obama told us that his stimulus bill will create or save a million jobs. His attempts to justify that have been fraudulent.
As a presidential candidate Obama promised that he would abide by campaign finance limits. He reneged on that pledge.
Obama promised that he would appoint no lobbyists to his administration. The he appointed even more lobbyists than Bush.
Obama told Congress that his health plan would not fund illegal aliens; meantime his allies were voting down amendments to that effect. (Which caused Joe Wilson’s “Liar!”outburst.)
And this is just a few of Obama’s double-tongued utterances.
Up until now, I could not believe my country’s leaders would ever forfeit our trust in them by lying to us. But President Obama has made a believer out of me.
