North Pole Meltdown
by Bob Parks (6/28/08)
I can hear it now: the global warming alarmists will declare they were right. Humans have caused climate change, and the proof is way up north…
It seems unthinkable, but for the first time in human history, ice is on course to disappear entirely from the North Pole this year.
The disappearance of the Arctic sea ice, making it possible to reach the Pole sailing in a boat through open water, would be one of the most dramatic – and worrying – examples of the impact of global warming on the planet. Scientists say the ice at 90 degrees north may well have melted away by the summer.
In reading this entire piece, there are two words not mentioned by The Independent’s science editor: The Sun.
“From the viewpoint of science, the North Pole is just another point on the globe, but symbolically it is hugely important. There is supposed to be ice at the North Pole, not open water,” said Mark Serreze of the US National Snow and Ice Data Centre in Colorado.
Symbolically. The left sure loves their symbolism.
“There is supposed to be ice at the North Pole….”
Says who? It’s a testament to human arrogance that some believe the temperature that’s comfortable for us is “normal” and that there is “supposed to be ice at the North Pole”. When it comes to melting at the polar ice caps, we are not alone.
As some of you may remember, I referenced this last year…
Earth is currently experiencing rapid warming, which the vast majority of climate scientists says is due to humans pumping huge amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
Mars, too, appears to be enjoying more mild and balmy temperatures.
Habibullo Abdussamatov, head of space research at St. Petersburg’s Pulkovo Astronomical Observatory in Russia, says the Mars data is evidence that the current global warming on Earth is being caused by changes in the sun.
“The long-term increase in solar irradiance is heating both Earth and Mars,” he said. Abdussamatov believes that changes in the sun’s heat output can account for almost all the climate changes we see on both planets.
“Man-made greenhouse warming has made a small contribution to the warming seen on Earth in recent years, but it cannot compete with the increase in solar irradiance,” Abdussamatov said.
There are no SUV’s on Mars. No one is leaving a carbon footprint on the planet further away from The Sun that Earth, yet her icecaps are melting as well. Sure, Mars’ atmosphere is thinner than on Earth thus The Sun’s heat will play a greater role in melting there than here, but you can’t demonize The Sun as a denier. You can’t, unless you’re a dupe or a fool, deny the fact that there is a Sun.
When the global warming panic goes full speed ahead because of this latest “find”, ask those who are reciting the human blame game, why they NEVER mention The Sun when they talk about climate change?
Maybe it’s because the obvious is inconvenient truth to environmentalists.
