Barack Obama and NanCIA Pelosi’s Dangerously Short Detention Spans

On every Memorial Day, the flag over this veteran’s porch flies smartly in remembrance of those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in defense of this nation. Having nearly done so myself, today holds special significance. And on this day, while I join the the nation as it remembers those who have given their lives for our country, I simmer with anger at a Democrat Party that is putting politics above national security, thereby putting our country in grave danger.
At this very moment, while our enemies look on in amusement, there is a fierce battle being waged among our country’s leadership over where the line should be drawn in defense of America. If the wrong attitudes prevail, Americans are going to die, but that appears precisely the direction Democrats are headed. Whether it be the efficacy of harsh interrogation methods, the release of classified information or inflammatory photographs depicting those methods, the closure of Guantanamo Bay or the integrity of the CIA, the casual manner in which Democrats are stoking division, compromising our national security and attacking those who keep us safe should scare the living hell out of every American who values this nation and what it stands for.
The casual manner in which Barack Obama flip flops on national security matters should have Americans calling for his impeachment for treason on the grounds of providing aid and comfort to our enemies.
Under pressure from the ACLU, Obama authorized the release of classified memos detailing enhanced interrogation techniques used against high-value detainees, giving them a nice addition to their play book and rendering these methods useless. He also agreed to release dozens of photographs of alleged detainee abuse, before abruptly reversing course. He made his original decision before consulting with commanders and only changed his mind after a large demonstration of public outrage. In his tortured explanations, he expects us to believe that he actually fought against their release and exhausted all avenues before finally agreeing to release and then changing his mind based on some “new” legal argument.
Obama holds the mistaken belief that publicly exposing our information gathering methods to the entire world, while hypocritically withholding the results of those methods, is somehow necessary to “close the book” on the past.
Appearing on television Thursday to debate Dick Cheney over the finer points of water-boarding shows that his position against the practice is a weak and very unpopular one. Why else would he need to re-validate his convictions on television? Although I am an unapologetic supporter of any means necessary to defend American lives, including -yes- torture, I hear nary a peep from anyone in disagreement, other than Washington elites and their ACLU and MoveOn.org supporters.
Obama’s dangerously short-sighted plan to close Guantanamo Bay detention facilities received a stern rebuke from the Senate last week. As a candidate, he gave no consideration to the logistics and practical implications of closing that facility. On day two of his term, he made an unequivocal pledge to close it within one year. He never bothered to formulate a plan to deal with the population, that much is . So clear in fact, that the Senate voted to deny funding to close the camp until a solid plan was presented. Interestingly enough, the vote was 90 - 6 with the 6 nay votes coming from all Democrats, three of whom (Dick Durbin, Patrick Leahy and Sheldon Whitehouse) are on the judiciary committee, which would have oversight of detainee trials if conducted here in the US. Can anyone say power grab?
Calls by Democrats that we can incarcerate these terrorists here in the US overlook two key facts:
1. There is a high potential for the recruitment and radicalization of disaffected prisoners with short sentences. Lest you think this risk is small, last week the FBI nabbed four ex-cons who thought they were receiving live bombs and missiles to kill Americans. This threat is real.
2. The risk is not in them escaping, but in others breaking them out. Keeping them here in America invites spectacular attack. What if al Qaeda decided to wage a spectacular jail break, taking as many Americans with them as they could, just to prove that they could? I fear the temptation to launch this type of attack far outweighs any benefit in keeping them on US soil.Obama’s leadership, or lack thereof, has been on full display ever since NanCIA Pelosi accused the CIA of lying about briefing her on water-boarding. The Speaker certainly possesses a reserve of hubris. She didn’t just accuse the CIA of lying, a crime. When pressed, she publicly stood by her original statement, yet when pressed to explain, cannot offer a shred of evidence. And while NanCIA Pelosi launches classless and dishonest attacks on the men and women of our intelligence services, Obama simply stands there mute.
Barack Obama is a hypocrite and a danger to this nation. He possesses no convictions beyond those that got him elected:
· He campaigned on ending warrantless wiretaps, yet they continue.
· He campaigned on ending extra-judicial rendition, yet the process continues.
· He campaigned on ending the process of military tribunals, yet they continue.He has realized the merits of Bush’s actions against terrorism, but childishly can’t bring himself to stop attacking the very policies he himself now uses, much less give the former president an ounce of credit.
I’m not sure about you, but if the lives of myself or my family are threatened, I would strangle the life out of that threat without hesitation - and with my bare hands. A man with the guts to lead the greatest nation on Earth but be willing to do ugly things to protect us, if necessary. That is the hallmark of true leadership. Unfortunately for us, Democrats have limits. And now our enemies know exactly what they are.
