The USA Needs Newspapers Not Leftist Rags!
by Malcolm T. Hedges (9/24/09)
A significant contributor to the distress among most “newspapers” is that they have little if any “real news”. They dedicate most all of their content to advocacy and promotion of the Progressive agenda.
Millions of people want “real newspapers” and would gladly subscribe and/or purchase them.
The LA metro area and Phoenix(Valley Of The Sun) would be prime targets to get the ball rolling. Phoenix is now market #5 in the USA and has just two “newspapers” one of which is marginal and the other a dedicated Progressive rag.
A decent honest paper with reasonable prices per issue could be huge successes in both markets.
Informational TV(Fox News, etc) has already demonstrated that there is a huge pent-up demand for providers. It’s just that the “newspaper” moguls refuse to grasp reality.
The MSM TV “news” has gotten so bad that it’s a perfect time for “real newspapers” to invite the folks that have abandoned them to read the real news.
The “new media” is providing “scoops” on a daily basis, the newspapers could provide extended coverage on those scoops the next morning.
The staff doesn’t need to be overpaid uneducated “journalists”. There is a ton of talent floating around that would love to be working again even part-time for nominal pay.
There is no need for expensive luxurious facilities and offices. Lease a floor in a cheap office building, buy used office furnishings, find cheap computers and use “open source software”. The result would be a lean mean publishing machine.
There are multiple “news services” in the “new media” that wouldn’t break the bank for external sources. There are columnists far and wide looking for publishers.
Finally people will pay the full street price for subscriptions if that price is reasonable. They understand delivery is an expensive proposition.
The opportunity is waiting. Who will grab it and run?
